One on One Private Instruction

Learn to get the most from your camera with one-on-one instruction that is tailored to what you like to shoot and the equipment that you have.

Private instructions occur over 2 hours at an agreed-upon location and the instruction includes demonstration/lecture type instruction and some guided shooting time where you are doing the shooting with your own equipment.  I will explain the basic concepts and you will immediately apply them to see first hand how they work.

Private instruction requires a $50 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. The remaining fee is to be paid at the time of the instruction.

To schedule your private instruction, please contact me through the contact page on this site and tell me which course you would like to schedule. I will contact you to set up a convenient date, time, and location.

Photography Basics

4 hrs private instruction

$240.00

We'll go over the basics of exposure and composition. I will explain how your camera sees and thinks. Then I will show you how to use that information to take your photography to the next level. We will go over the main features of your camera and you will learn how and when to use them to get your shot.

This class is made up of two 2 hr meetings. At the first meeting, we will go over the basics and how to use your camera. You then get to try out what you have learned. Take a week to practice and then we will meet again and build on what you have learned. We'll review the shots from the week, critique them and shoot some more using the knowledge you've gained.

This class is ideal for the beginner who wants to take creative control of their photography. Whether you have a point-and-shoot, phone, or DSLR camera, understanding how it thinks and learning some basics of composition and lighting will instantly up the wow factor of your pictures.

Basic Flash Photography

2 hrs private instruction

$120.00

This class is a follow up to the Photography Basics class. It is intended for those who are comfortable with their cameras shooting in natural light. Please note that this is not a class for the on-board flash of your point and shoot or DSLR camera. It is about mastering the use of an external flash attached to your camera via a hot-shoe. You should be able to tilt and rotate your flash head.

We'll go over techniques to make your photos more pleasing and not have that flash look to them. We'll go over the different modes and how to use the features of your flash along with the camera to take full creative control. You'll go from "taking" pictures to "making" them.

Advanced Flash Photography

2 hrs private instruction

$120.00

This is a follow on to the Basic Flash Photography class. In this class, we'll take your flash photography to a whole new level by taking the flash off the camera giving you complete creative control of your light. We'll discuss techniques to overcome all sorts of lighting challenges. We'll also discuss using the flash for creative lighting as well as using multiple flashes and modifiers. You will need at least one flash and a way to trigger that flash remotely. If you are not sure how to do this, we can discuss it before you sign up for the class.
